Bringing Africa to Calgary

I won some tickets to a BD&P World Music Series concert at Jack Singer last night. The performers were Black Umfolosi from Zimbabwe. I managed to drag Geoff away from his work for a couple of hours so we could enjoy the sounds and rhythms of southern Africa. They were awesome! Their sound reminded me of South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mambazo and they added lots of entertaining things to their performance like African dancing, gumboot dancing, and imitating dancing in different cultures (black ballerinas!). Just amazing what 5 guys can do singing a cappella.

They had so much energy and tried to get the predominantly white crowd to clap their hands and sing along. They won over the crowd with their own rendition of the Tokens' "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". And even better, the crowd could actually sing this one!
