Evelyn Tan, MA in Anthropology

Let the party begin! I passed my Master's thesis defense this morning! All my hard work in Ghana, the UofA lab, and here in Calgary for the past year and 9 months has finally paid off!

I was soooo stressed out and nervous... so bad that I didn't sleep last night and couldn't eat breakfast this morning because I felt nauseous. But my committee was very supportive and encouraging and I managed to get through the 2-hour grilling Q&A session fairly well. I wish I had ESP to read the minds of my committee members during the Q&A period! I guess I did a good enough job since they allowed me to pass. I have some minor revisions to do in the next week or so before I send off the final copy of the thesis to be bound and submitted to grad studies.

I'm still in a little bit of shock and I'm totally drained... but I'm also VERY relieved! And happy! I went out with a few people from the department for lunch and I was totally shell shocked from the whole experience. Doyle told me I looked like I needed a drink, and I really did.

Geoff and I will celebrate with dinner tonight (yummy Moroccan food) followed by alcohol and more alcohol. We'll start with the bottle of wine that the anthropology department bought for me as a congratulatory present. I'm going to be one happy drunk! :)
