Japan and honeymoon plans

Geoff and I were both placed on the alternate short-list for the JET programme (teaching English in Japan). It's highly unlikely that we'll be able to find placements in the same city as alternates since all the current JETs as well as the new incoming JETs get priority over us. So in short, we're going to turn down our alternate positions and put our dreams of Japan on the shelf... for now.

Anyways, Geoff has a good job and we kinda want to stay in Calgary for that reason. Plus we've booked our honeymoon directly after the wedding which would preclude us from going to Japan. I guess this means that I will be looking for a job after I finish my defence. Anyone have an ecology-related job for me?

I'm excited about our honeymoon plans. Geoff's parents are sending us to Bermuda as their wedding gift to us! We'll be going for a week! Then we'll be stopping over in NYC for 4 days on the way back cuz I've always wanted to go to NYC and it's the perfect opportunity to do just that.

It's too bad that your plans for Japan havn't happened the way you wanted. But maybe it will give you guys some time to sort of nest and settle in after all the excitment of getting married, going to Bermuda and NYC (nice!), and completing your defence. I know for me, some down time after my defence would have been a good thing. Although I guess I'll get a little of that now. About the job thing, I'm in the same boat. I'll let you know if I come accross anything in my search. Wow, can you believe that we're going to be 9-5ers? Good luck over the next few weeks. I know it will be very busy for you. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Cheers!

You know what would be a super-cool honeymoon (especially for you, being you)... a 'conservation outreach' antarctic trip! (though I guess you'd be spending more time with other people than you might like)
