Wedding = big money sink
The magnitude of this whole wedding rip-off job is starting to sink in. Everything from flowers to photographers to dresses are outrageously priced just because they're for a wedding. I was shopping for bridesmaid dresses with Mandy and Heather this weekend. We thought we were starting early looking for dresses. But, we checked out a few bridal boutiques and discovered that we were supposed to shop for bridesmaid dresses anywhere from 4-6 months in advance! I mean who thinks to look for dresses that far in advance?! You'd be two seasons behind the seasonal trends if you were to do that.
Of course, the reason the bridal boutiques do this is so that they can milk you for more money. If you've neglected to shop half a year in advance then they can charge you between $30-$100 extra per dress for a "rush order". This means that we have to decide on dresses before the end of the week and put in the order so we can get the bridesmaid dresses in time for the wedding. Yikes!
I'll admit that bridal boutiques don't really count on returning customers so they do have to bilk customers out of a lot of money all in one go to stay in business. And maybe with fewer couples getting married nowadays, the ones who do get married have to absorb the costs.

Yeah, I wish we had that option. But since I'm the first kid to get married on both my parents' sides, it's a pretty big deal. Although, technically my parents wanted me to get married on a cruise. Probably cuz they just wanted an excuse to go on a cruise.
So maybe my side would have been OK with that, but not Geoff's side.
