Still alive
In a rush today which is so not African!
Had my first official day of data collection yesterday and it went really well. Went out with my RA Charles in the morning to collect the leaves and spent the rest of the day until about 4 pm processing the samples. My $17 coffee grinder is definitely the best investment I made this trip. Such a time saver - otherwise I'd be using the mortar and pestle for everything! The makeshift oven is working wonders and I managed to exceed my target weights for my samples on the first try!
I became a freak show/spectacle for the locals as well as the tourists since I do all my sample processing in the summer hut where we eat. I finally got fed up with it and started a new rule. If you're going to stare and watch Evelyn do work then you're going to help too! Either way I win - I get free help or everyone runs away and lets me work in peace!
It's such a relief that at least my field season is starting out well. Now for the next 2 and a half months I will be working everyday except for Tuesdays (Nkoranza market day).
In monkey news - we have brand new white colobus babies at BFMS. I am determined to get an excellent picture of one! Right now, I've gotta run. Hopefully I will have more time next week to elaborate on my latest adventures.
