14 days to Ghana!

Can't believe it's the middle of May already. I'm doing the last little bit of shopping and packing and then I'll be ready for Ghana. It's a weird combination of excitement and sadness to be going back. Excited because I love Africa and I can't wait to do my field work, sad because I'll miss my friends and family.

I've been packing my schedule full of activities: dinners with old friends, movies, hiking, etc. basically everything I won't be able to do in Africa. Here's a brief update on what I have been up to.

Watched "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I read the book just so Geoff and I could go watch the movie. It's a terrible movie (hey, I'm being critical Chir!) if you haven't read the books but it makes so much more sense if you have read the book. I love British humour and Douglas Adams certainly has that sarcastic British sense of humour. The worst character in the movie was Zaphod Beeblebrox, the actor was way over the top rather than the being the confused, off-beat, and irrational character he is in the book. The best character in the movie was Marvin the depressed robot who was voiced by Alan Rickman. Couldn't have picked a better person to be Marvin.

Went hiking in the mtns for the first time this season. Geoff's roommate Rennie, my friend since elementary school Katherine, and (hopefully) my future field assistant/slave in Ghana Scott went hiking near Barrier Lake in Kananaskis. I nearly died because I'm so out of shape. Oh well, the weather was beautiful and the trails were in shockingly perfect condition for early May.

Geoff's dance competition (Calgary Open) was on Sat. He and Sandi got bronze in bronze and silver in silver!! Thought it was strange that they placed higher in the harder competition... some of the judging was rather dogdy.

Geoff and I went to Stage West last night for California Dreaming. The food was yummy and the show was a musical revue of California musical groups from the 50s-80s. Lots of great music including one of my favourites groups of all time - The Eagles.

Thanks Les! I am happy going back to Africa. Africans are friendly and not full of shit like they are here (don't worry - not referring to you and my friends).

I'll try to keep my blog updated. Will be difficult since I have access to internet at max 1 time per week.

I'm glad Connie is coming to visit you! Where are you guys going? Just around Holland?
