Weekend at the Chateau
OK, so this doesn't really count as "world" travel but I did get to spend the weekend in Lake Louise! Geoff's company (Debian) was having their corporate Xmas party at the Chateau. We almost didn't make it to the Chateau in time for dinner because the roads were so bad and there were white-out conditions past Canmore. Luckily it cleared up really quickly and we got there in time.
It was such a decadent event: huge buffet dinner in a beautiful dining hall. The funniest thing happened though. Someone playing in the band called my name and it took me 10 seconds to realize that it was my boss (David) from Studio 9! So in a way, it was my Xmas party too! Geoff and I were the first to get up and dance a waltz. The floor was sticky and we weren't in dance shoes but we managed. I also kept stepping on the hem of my beautiful dress... oh well. Then Van and Michelle got up to dance and put us all to shame!
Our room was so tiny - it's amazing to think that people would be willing to spend over $400/night on such a room (thank Vince and Richie). Admittedly though, the view was gorgeous. The next morning we had a huge buffet brunch and I tried hard not to over indulge. Ironically enough, the desserts for brunch were much better than for the dinner the night before.
Geoff and I spent some time taking pictures at the lake and then drove to Banff and spent the rest of the day wandering around Main Street. Went to my favourite store - the gem store and stared at the beautiful jewelry. Showed Geoff one of my favourite stones: tanzanite (hint hint). Apparently tanzanite will no longer be exported from East Africa and so its value will be going through the roof. Considering the tanzanite ring we saw was over $3000- it would be well worth it to invest in tanzanite. So go out and buy some tanzanite! It's the most beautiful purple blue colour I have ever seen.
