I'm officially published!
The research that I did as an undergrad in ecology finally got published! Such a process - the lab work with the protozoans made my 4th year absolutely hellish. I remember counting literally thousands of Paramecium each and every day... I don't think I had a day off in 3 months. I spent my weeknights and weekends in the McCauley lab - it was my second home.
I managed to write the paper for my independent project in a few days after getting all the data analysis done (a whole other story). I did get some recognition for all my efforts because I won the Alan M. Masters award for the best undergrad project in my year. Albeit, there were only 2 other people I was competing against. Still, quite an accomplishment.
After coming back from Madagascar/Kenya (summer 2003) I spent most of my free time re-analysing the data and reading papers to write a publishable paper. Working with Tamara was so much fun but also interesting because by this point she was already back in Toronto. And finally after all this work - it has totally paid off! We got our paper published in URBEE (Undergraduate Research in Behavior, Ecology, and Evolution).
