The Constant Gardener
Geoff and I watched this beautiful movie last night. Amazing storyline, dialogue, cinematography, music, and Kenyan people and landscapes. It was such a sad and frustrating story dealing with the conflict of interests amongst the large pharmaceuticals that want to make money at any cost, the politicians who turned a blind eye, the NGOs and doctors trying to stop the testing, and the impoverished people that are the victims.
The problem with watching movies about Africa is that it makes me want to go back to Africa! In particular, this movie makes you want to work for an NGO or an orphanage or a refugee camp. Who knows? Maybe one day it will be possible for me and Geoff to pack up and live somewhere in Africa where we can try to make a difference. I can't imagine a better or more fulfilling life.
